Harrisburg's visitor center at 114 Walnut St (tel 717/232-1377, www.visithhc.com ) provides maps and a suggested downtown walking tour. Hotels on the outskirts of town, aimed toward business travelers and politicians, are a snip compared to prices in DC or Philly.
Budget restaurants line Second Street in downtown Harrisburg, the best being Fisaga , Locust & N Second St (tel 717/257-1328), which serves good basic sandwiches and pastas at reasonable prices. Deweys Dry Dock & Deli , 33 N Second St (tel 717/233-3700), does good sandwiches and fries, while Nick's 1014 , 1014 N Third St (tel 717/238-8844), and Scott's , 212 Locust St (tel 717/234-7599), are popular bar/grills with music some nights.
